The Carmuirs Development Project is creating plans to develop and improve the local environment in the Carmuirs area of Camelon. The project focusses on two locations – Camelon Juniors FC car park and the land around it including the route down to the Forth & Clyde Canal towpath, and the old Brown Street Park.
Local residents are being asked to give their views on how the two areas should be developed. With funding from the UK Community Renewal Fund as part of Falkirk Canal Connections, Edinburgh-based consultancy Rocket Science and The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) are consulting local people in the area to find out what improvements they would like to see.
People living in Carmuirs have already identified four top-level priorities for improvements. These are:
- Security and community safety
- Safe play for children, young people, and families
- Creative arts projects
- Community growing and greening activities
These themes will be the starting point for the Carmuirs Development Project consultation. The views and involvement of the residents are crucial to suggest improvements that have the support of the local community.
The consultation will involve focus group sessions, meetings, surveys and interviews with all the key stakeholders in the Carmuirs area, plus a programme of community events. The community events programme will provide an opportunity for consultants from Rocket Science to engage with local people to understand their views and aspirations. Plus, anyone coming along to any of the events will enjoy free and fun activities for the community based on the themes of environmental improvement and safe creative play in the outdoors.
